Click of The Week #32: Merry Magdalena

cow Reading through Merry Magdalena’s blog, is like looking at the world through a new pair of eyes. With “Sexual revolution” written as heading on her blog page, it hit me that all Merry’s writings are calculated to send a strong message, especially to female readers. She is so heavily into gender issues that her blog serves as a wake up call for females to stop self pity about their looks but to maximize their potential instead.

“If you are a poor and ignorant female, then you are the most unfortunate human being in this world. Why? Because you become the most vulnerable prey for all the predators in this jungle of life !” Merry wrote in the posting “Females, Poverty and Ignorance”.

Merry Magdalena, who refuses to be classified as feminist, is a journalist working for Sinar Harapan. She writes about science, technology, environment, and IT. She is also the moderator of technomedia mailing list and author of a recently published book, “Cyberlaw, not to be feared”.

Merry Magdalena’s blog captured my attention, not only because I share the same concerns about women’s position in society but also because her blog serves as a strong agent of change for female travelers in the virtual world. As a journalist she uses her blog to deliver information and messages that aims to open the minds of female readers everywhere.

Merry’s blog has stories of women with powerful life stories. On the left column, her blog has an interactive polling system that asks intriguing questions surrounding gender issues at the workplace, at home and even in politics. The lower left side provides a link to stories and article related to gender and feminism. cyberlaw

Her other writings come under headlines like “Love Your Own Body”, “Female, Poverty and Ignorance”, “Women’s Magazines : Patriarchy Agent ?”and “Technology as the savior of The Eves “.

I’m looking forward to read her new postings on http://revolusihidup.blogspot.com soon. Maybe she’d share her opinions on Benazir Bhuto’s tragic life or on Hilary Clinton as a female presidential candidate. I hope Merry won’t be too preoccupied with her new toy Netsains.com, because I believe Merry can inspire other women through her witty writing.
