Click of the Week #35: Captured of Eyes
“Captured of Eyes” is the name of the blog. It is hard for me to digest what these three words really mean as they are not grammatically correct and it will make you ponder on what it is supposed to mean. Perhaps what it tries to say is what the eyes capture.
Despite of the mystery of the name, I think it deserves to be featured as Maverick Click of the Week, because it is probably the first photoblog from a journalist that I come across. It belongs to Wienda Parwitasari a photojournalist from Jurnal Nasional, a paper that has been winning a lot of awards at the AAS Awards.
There are only few sets of photos posted in the blog. Yet, it still draws the attention and makes you think.
For example, one photo set was taken at RSPP while waiting the Smiling General to expire his last breath. Here, Wienda captures what we do not see in the traditional media, of prominent people waying their last respects to Suharto but also of journalists crowding to snatch a soundbite or a photo. She captures the spirit of journalists at work.
Another set is on workers in the small garments manufacturers in Cakung, near Bekasi. Wienda successfully captures vignettes of the lives of the workers in the industry and brings to life for us a sector of society that we would otherwise have not had contact with.
For the insights she provides into facets of life that most of us would not know of, its worth visiting Wienda’s blog.
