Kompas Gramedia Launches Kompas.com Reborn

Kompas Gramedia on Thursday, May 29, 2008, launched Kompas.com Reborn in a ceremony at Hotel Mulia Senayan led by Minister of Communication and Informatics M. Nuh, Kompas Gramedia Chairman Jakob Oetomo and Kompas Gramedia CEO Agung Adiprasetyo. The grand launch marked the rebirth of Kompas.com that had gone through serious changes in layout, content management, format and features.

The transformation from Kompas Cyber Media to Kompas.com was a year-long process. Throughout the period Kompas.com planned its editorial content, built new infrastructure, increased its bandwidth and put its human resources in a single News Room. The new Kompas.com has a cleaner look than before. The layout optimizes readability while still retaining its artistic feel. The site utilizes complementing tones and well-structured format instead of the competing colors and cluttered format of rival news portals.

Another welcome addition to the site is the synergy with other communication platforms. Kompas.com is enriched with contents from Radio Sonora. Users can stream live broadcasts or browse through its archive. The site also boasts Kompas Images, KompasTV, SelebTV and VideokuTV. VideokuTV allows users to upload their own news reports in video format in the way CNN’s I-report and YouTube allows users to become reporters in their own right.

Earlier on May 24, 2008, Kompas.com received the Cakram Award in the Best News Portal Provider category, beating long-time rival Detik.com and Okezone.com. Cakram selected Kompas.com as the recipient of the award for its breakthroughs in terms of creativity, effectiveness, uniqueness and implementation of ideas. On May 27, 2008, Kompas.com also received the New Wave Marketing Award from marketing consultant MarkPlus Inc for building participative and collaborative relations with its users.

Kompas.com will revolutionize the way we get and share information in Indonesia. It allows convergence between mainstream and digital media. The site provides executives with up-to-date and accurate information anytime and anywhere through their computers and mobiles.

The interactive features also allow for two-way communications between the provider and its readers. By posting comments, letters-to-the-editor or uploading video reports, people can share their opinion and thoughts on current events quickly, easily and inexpensively. This allows instant feedbacks on an unprecedented scale. It also enables companies to scan for public opinion on current issues.
